After last weeks success Thornhill went out bouyant. The game started well with some good passing by Thornhill, however Pentwyn's A league credentials soon started to show. We held on well in the first half keeping the score line respectable, but in the second half frustration got the better of us.
Well done lads for giving it your all in tough circumstances. Just remember that the reason why we came up against these guys is that we won in the first round. something that has not happened before, this is still our best ever cup run!

Thornhill B v Maindy Corries 5/11/09
A wet day but a deluge of goals for thornhill with our biggest win of the season. The game started positively with nice passing leading to a great chance for Chris Juggessur who rose well for a great header that hit the bar. Chris quickly made up for this miss with a goal in the first 10 minutes. James Doyle soon took the score to 2-0 with another great shot that the Maindy keeper who had made some great saves stood no chance against.
The score remained unchanged at half time, but Maindy were starting to tire and Thornhill were playing some of their best football. Jake Evans and Andrew Peckham both scored from accute angles, Chris got one more and James Makin scored twice, one from nearly the half way line. But Maindy never gave up and eventually got a deserved goal from a great run by their striker. Andrew then finished the game with a final ball that bounced awkwardly for the Maindy keeper and took the score to 8-1.
A superb team performance with the whole squad giving 100% and great defensive play at the back not allowing Maindy to get going. The man of the match goes to Sean Leonard for coming back from injury and performing so well.

Thornhill B v Lisvane Panthers 7/11/09
A wet start on a slippery pitch for this local derby match. Despite this the game started as it was to go on at a terrific pace. Both teams were very well matched and both clearly wanted the win. Thornhill were playing some good football with Evan and the defence clearing the ball from the Thornhill end well. Eventually Dan Sohi saw an opportunity with the lisvane keeper off his line and fired a long shot from the centre circle to open the scoring for Thornhill. This was followed by a great header by Chris Juggessur to take the half time score to 2-0. Unfortunatly Jake had to come off at half time with an injury and loosing his great football skill on the wing was unsettling. Lisvane took advantage with two goals early in the second half the second of which was an unstoppabe shot from their striker.
Thornhill refused to give in and James Makin scored a well deserved goal for Thornhill, followed by another for lisvane. With the score at 3-3 the intensity of the game was unbearable for the fans. But neither team gave up, Adam Salamon kept producing great attacking moves as did James Doyle and the central defence partnership of Andrew Peckham and David Evans was rock solid. With only a few minutes left James Makin struck again to give a final score of Thornhill 4-3 Lisvane. Well done lads a great day and a well deserved victory. Man of the match goes to James Makin for winning the midfield battle in the swamp of the centre circle and the two goals.

Urdd v Thornhill B 31/10/09
I suspect that lots of you had plenty of long lie in's over half term, and it showed today! Thornhill and Urdd both started slowly but Urdd woke up Quicker and managed to get three shots on target before half time.
We then started to play some good football and challenge. Well done to James D for his two goals. One a tap in from a lovely strike by Jake, and the other a great shot from a rebound. These take our total to 23 for the season, not bad. Chris also had some near misses hitting the bar twice. The defence tackled well as always and it is for constantly getting stuck in and being the muddiest outfield player on the pitch from all the slide tackles that man of the match this week goes to Harry.
Next game let's make sure that we get going a bit quicker and show them the football we are really capable of.

St Albans v Thornhill B 24/10/09
What a performance today from 12 lads who really showed spirit. We need to remember that St Albans are top of the league and last season played in the A league. Despite this we put Four goals past them, by playing some great football. Chris first with his 11th of the season. Then Andrew from a corner followed by James D with a great shot and finally James M with a Header. James G nearly made it five when he hit the post. The few minutes in the second half when the score was was 4-4 was just fantastic for us spectators. Unfortunatly we tired late in the second half, and a lack of subs meant that we just couldnt do any more, despite valiant efforts.
Well done to Harry for bravery in goals and thanks to the defence for protecting him so well. No one today let us down, so well done all of you. Man of the match for seeming to be everywhere and so much effort is Andrew well done.

Thornhill B v St Albans 17/10/09
Today Thornhill went out against the football team that are joint top of the league, and showed them that ( for 65mins at least ) we can play some great football.
The game started well with good play from both teams but St Albans did get the better of Thornhill with a scrambled goal after about 15mins. Dave kept his head up and made some superb saves to keep us in it, eventually though St Albans got a second. In the meantime long passes over the top from James D and Jake were giving Chris chances eventually leading to a goal for Thornhill. At half time the score was 2-1 and the St Albans coach was not happy with his team.
Unfortunately we were short of subs and the second half although starting well went downhill after about 25 minutes. Tired legs meant that St Albans started to get the better of us with pace.
Nothing to be upset about here though, we played good football and challenged throughout the game. Next week hopefully a full bench will help to relieve some of the pace issues in the second half and we will improve.
The man of the match this week goes Dave for stepping in at the last minute and some great saves.

Marlborough Black v Thornhill B 10/10/09
Thornhill 4 - 3 Marlborough
This one was a real hard fought close football match. The game started tentatively for both teams. But soon Thornhill started to challenge and it became an end to end thrilller. Marlborough were the first to strike with a goal that just evaded a great dive from by Jack. Next Chris equalised with a neet chip over the keeper, the defence were working hard with Dave in his usual vocal form and Evan clearing well, but Marlborough then scored just before half time.
The second half started, and soon Thornhill equalised with a nice strike from James D ( A great birthday present for him). This was followed by a corner from Marlborough leading to an unlucky own goal by Thornhill. In the dying seconds of the 2nd half Jake got a free kick and the whole team lined up in the box. A superb strike by Jake led to an equaliser from Chris.
Extra time then saw some tired lads still giving 100% and this eventually led to the 3rd from Chris stopping it going to penalties
Well done lads a hard fought win over a very good opposition who played superb football.
The man of the match as always is a tough one with so many great performances but today it goes to Andrew for his dedication in Defence well done.

Radyr v Thornhill B 3/10/09
Todays match was always going to be tough as Radyr are a strong football team, with some very big powerfull players.
Thornhill started well and showed our potential with plenty of skilled play all over the pitch. at half time we were 2-0 down but competing well. Unfortunatly the second half didn't go so well with some strange descisions unsettling the thornhill team, and our energy starting to sap.
The final score didnt reflect our performance. We must also remember that we are playing better each week and that this seasons stats are already up on last year.
This weeks man of the match goes to James Doyle for his speed of attack and strength in defence. However all of you deserve praise for keeping going today.

Match Report Saturday 26th September 2009
Thornhill 4 v 2 Maindy Corries
Today we went out with more of a plan, using Evan as a sweeper and making sure we kept the ball down and ran the wings. The team did as they were told and it paid off.
The game started superbly with some nice mid-field play from Shaun leading to an opening goal from Chris within 5 minutes. It wasn't long before Jake got in on the action with a fantastic run up the wing leading to a very nice goal. The mid-field were working great and our defence was cutting out the challenges well. The next highlight was James Makin's subtle shoulder barge!!!. Maindy then got one back after an awkward bounce left Jack just outside his area unable to punch the ball clear.
Thornhill were a little rattled now with only one goal in it but James Doyle made a great break down the wing and some crosses back and forth with Jake which took the Maindy defence apart leaving Jake a chance to float a stunning goal into the net.
Maindy did not let their heads drop and kept up the challenge leading to a goalmouth scramble that resulted in the second goal. At half time we were 3-2 up and new legs went onto the pitch to relieve some of the lads who had given their all in the first half.
The second half was again dominated by our Wingers James D and Jake and then Jamie with Shaun showing great strength in the centre until his football boots disintegrated!!!
Chris got his second goal from a lovely break through the middle and the game then played out to a 4-2 win. My only fright was when Nozza picked up the ball!!! (play the whistle next time).
A great morning with everyone giving 100% almost impossible to give a man of the match as so many people played well, but for doing exactly what we said and stopping so many long balls it goes to Evan this week. Well done.

Match Report 19/09/09
Thornhill v Avenue Hotspur.
Very much a game of two halves, where we improved a lot. The first half didn't go well for us with some great football by Avenue Hotspurs and I must comment on the fair decision by the ref when the keeper was injured. Long balls over the top to some top notch strikers led to 7 goals. But moving Dan into defence gave us some extra control in the last 15 minutes and we started to challenge a bit more.
The second half started with some tactical changes, Evan playing as sweeper stopped the long ball threat, and we could start to play our passing game. This payed off with a well struck cross from James Gough taking a massive deflection to give us a goal. Leo followed this with a great shot to give us our second. We then missed a series of chances and I thought we were going to slip back when Avenue scored 2 more, but eventually Chris got 2 with some fine shooting.
Well done lads we learnt a lot today. All of you worked hard so it's hard to pick a man of the match. But for 100% commitment this week it goes to Leo Llewellyn.

Match Report 15th September
Thornhill Athletic B A.F.C. v Radyr
After a hard fought win on Saturday the team were very tired but had high expectations of todays game.
Radyr had a strong team with some very big players who simply out paced us in the first half. Thornhill had some highlights with a great penalty saved by Jack (from a classic foul by Harry!) and some very good football by Jake Evans on the wing and David in defence.
The scoreline going into the secound half was not good but the team picked themselves up and played better football after a half time break. (Why do we always do better in the secound half, is there something in the oranges?)
The passing improved with more accurate play leading to far better secound half score line and thornhill challenging the Radyr goal for significant periods of the secound half. This unfortunately didn't lead to a goal but the Radyr coaches commented on our improvement during the game, as did the excellent ref Dec.
The final score didn't really reflect our commitment or skill on the day and we should take heart from the fact that we improved during the game rather than letting it slide.
My man of the match for Thornhill would be Jake Evans for his huge efforts on the wing.

Match Report 12-09-09
Under 15 B league
Trowbridge F.C. v Thornhill Athletic B F.C.
The game started well with both teams playing some good football. Both teams had some great chances with Trowbridge playing looping long balls over the top to their pacey striker. The Thornhill keeper Jack Coliandris kept them in the game with some superb diving saves. Eventually though Trowbridge got through and scored a great first half goal. The score stayed 1-0 until half time.
The second half started with an early penalty to Thornhill for a hand ball in the box. Chris Jugessur stepped up and neatly finished it in the bottom corner. This was followed by a lovely goal chipped over Trowbridge’s keeper by James Makin. Both teams kept the pressure on well until a break by James Makin and Chris Jugessur led to a goal from a header by Chris. With the score at 1-3 Trowbridge really put the pressure on leading to some more fantastic saves from the Thornhill keeper Jack Coliandris and some very hard work from the Thornhill defence. Eventually a beautifully floated corner went in for Trowbridge.
With only one goal in it the intensity of the game went up a notch and the referee did a great job of keeping things fair. Nearing the end of the game Thornhill made another good break from some skilful midfield play leading to a great goal from James Doyle. The game finished 2-4 to Thornhill a great win to start the season. Man of the match for Thornhill was the keeper Jack Coliandris.
Well done to all the lads who played today. See you all on Thursday for training.
